Breathe Magic: Next Stage

After completing the Breathe Magic Intensive Therapy Foundation programme, our young magicians have the option of taking their abilities to The Next Stage!

Launched in 2015, this pilot programme is designed to help the young magicians further improve their bimanual hand function, independence, confidence and self-esteem. There is a strong focus on the development of social and communication skills. During the programme, participants learn a variety of specially selected advanced magic tricks and other creative activities such as origami, hat-juggling and culinary design skills.

Our Next Stage young magicians work together to host a large event at the end of the six days for their families and friends. We encourage them to take the lead on every single aspect of the event. That includes making all the decorations, greeting guests, hand-making canapés and serving refreshments. And of course, performing close-up magic at the tables!

The changes have been remarkable. Not only have we seen increased strength in that side but also increased ability to do fine motor skills, to be able to grasp things. For him it’s life changing, he can be independent. Just a few months ago he came to me and said, “Dad, look, I’ve done my buttons up!” The moment was indescribable really. I think it’s just the start of many of those moments, and I know a lot of that is down to Breathe Magic
