Our Magicians

DAVID OWEN | Magician & Founding Board Member

David is a Member of The Magic Circle and a leading commercial arbitrator, mediator and barrister.

His advocacy and legal skills led him to being appointed as Queen’s Counsel (QC) in 2006, and he is recognised as a leading figure in the world of dispute resolution. Developing communication skills has always been an integral part of his work. He has trained lawyers to become effective advocates and now trains groups and individuals on presentation and communication techniques, as well as communicating in situations of conflict.

David was elected into The Magic Circle in his teens and has performed and taught magic at corporate and private events around the world as well as on television. His lifelong interest in using magic performance skills in other contexts, and as a way of empowering individuals by increasing their confidence, is what led him to be one of our founding Board of Directors.

One of the founding magicians of Breathe Magic, Richard is a Member of The Inner Magic Circle with Gold Star and a former World Open Champion for Close-Up Magic.

He performs for private and corporate clients worldwide and feels fortunate to have appeared at several events hosted by HM The Queen, including a private party to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee, which was attended by forty Kings and Queens. He has also created magic for other performers, most notably a Derren Brown TV show which won the Silver Rose of Montreux.

Richard’s approach is recognised by other magicians, so he is often booked to lecture on the performance and presentation of magic at prestigious magic conventions around the world, and was a guest presenter on the first live global online magic event EMC. He now spends much of his time teaching and speaking to the business community on the impact of body language.

In the field of medicine, Richard has taught in seminars at London’s Ministry of Health and worked with senior oncologists in Spain, France, Hungary and Brazil, helping them to deliver scientific data more effectively and improve awareness and inter-personal skills with patients.

Will was The Magic Circle Close-Up Magician of the Year in 2015 and the youngest ever European Champion of Close-Up Magic. He is Member of The Inner Magic Circle with Gold Star and holds a PhD on Victorian Magic.

Away from the magic world, Will has acted as a consultant on productions such as Martin Scorsese’s multi Oscar-winning film Hugo and the BBC’s Golden Globe-winning TV series Wolf Hall. He has been featured as an expert on magic by numerous newspapers and radio programmes, and advised organisations including The Wellcome Trust, KPMG, The Victoria & Albert Museum and The Royal Shakespeare Company.

Will has combined his interests in magic and history by writing and internationally performing his one-man show Dr Houstoun’s Conjuring.
