We’re Bringing the Magic to the Occupational Therapy Show!

Thu 6 Nov

This month we’re so excited to be heading to the Occupational Therapy Show 2025, where we’ll be sharing how creativity and clinical excellence combine to transform therapy.

Since 2008, we’ve been turning therapy into something extraordinary through the Breathe Magic Intensive Therapy Programme (BMITP), an evidence-based, multi-award-winning approach that blends occupational therapy with the art of magic.

Designed for young people with hemiplegia (aged 6 – 18 years), the programme supports them to achieve their daily living goals, increase independence and confidence, and discover what’s possible, all while having an unforgettably magical experience.

On the 26-27th November, we’ll bring that same creative energy to the NEC Birmingham, sharing two days of inspiration, magic and meaningful conversations with the occupational therapy community.

The Magic Behind the Therapy

BMITP delivers over 60 hours of intensive, goal-oriented bimanual therapy. Working alongside professional Magicians from The Magic Circle, highly specialist occupational therapists use carefully designed tricks to encourage two-handed actions, problem-solving and performance skills.

Grounded in clinical evidence and aligned with NICE guidance (CG145), the results speak for themselves: participants show clinically significant improvements in bimanual task performance, participation and psychosocial wellbeing, with benefits lasting long after the programme ends.

Archie has made the most incredible achievements, he is like a different child who is able to do things we never thought would be possible, he is getting himself dressed and able to do so many things independently.

Experience the Magic at the OT Show

Visit our stand to meet the multidisciplinary team behind the programme and see how creativity enhances participation, motivation and outcomes.

Throughout the event, we’ll be sharing how elements of performance and creativity used in BMITP can inspire motor learning, coordination and confidence and maybe even a little magic along the way.

You’ll also hear from Josh Parsons, the first person with hemiplegia to become a Member of The Magic Circle, as he shares his journey from Young Magician to Breathe Magic Ambassador.

Expanding the Magic

Breathe Magic’s work extends beyond paediatric therapy. Breathe uses magic to develop upper limb hand and arm skills for adult stroke survivors, leading to increased independence, as well as improving communication skills and enhance emotional wellbeing.

Breathe also uses magic to support mental health improvement for groups with a wide range of challenges, with a particular focus on children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing.

Alongside Breathe Magic, Breathe delivers other arts-in-health programmes including Breathe Melodies for Mums, supporting maternal mental health, and Breathe Dance for Strength and Balance, co-designed with NHS physiotherapists to improve mobility and confidence among older patients.

Magic camp taught me to be confident in myself and not care what anybody else thinks of me. I felt like I belonged somewhere for the first time in my life. I felt like I belonged with everybody. I felt happy.
