What did you do during your placement with Breathe Arts Health Research?
I was a recent graduate and violinist from the Royal College of Music when I started working with Melodies for Mums. My role involved assisting Rosie (the music leader) with the running of music and singing sessions for mums and babies. I would help set up the room, get to know the mums and babies personally, play the violin and sing along with the sessions.
Why did the placement appeal to you?
The mums who attended these sessions were often struggling in some way and feeling slightly anxious. I was keen to gain experience working with more vulnerable women and learn ways to support and encourage them. The mums and babies were a joy to work with. It was amazing to see the group bond over the course of ten sessions and to see the women grow in confidence. A real highlight was the final session where we would sing through all the songs as a final goodbye.

What are you doing now?
I am now continuing my freelance career as a musician but hope to continue developing my skills and experience in arts related health projects.
