Breathe Dance for Staff Wellbeing

Our evening dance class for Guy’s and Thomas’ NHS staff to relieve stress and boost wellbeing

Breathe Dance for Staff Wellbeing is an online dance class designed to increase physical and mental fitness, by releasing tension, stretching out and strengthening the body.

This programme was launched in summer 2020 to support NHS staff who had been redeployed due to COVID-19, in roles with increased physical demands, working from more sedentary home positions, or without an outlet to exercise during the pandemic due to social restrictions.

The free weekly online class offers an outlet to help relax and unwind. Through creative expression and dance exercises specially designed for NHS staff, participants learn a range of movement techniques and short, joyful dance routines.

Led by experienced dance artist Georgia Heighway, dance styles include a fusion of contemporary, ballet, jazz and street dance. The classes are set to mood-boosting music in a fun and supportive environment, creating a sense of community amongst colleagues.

For me, the Breathe Dance classes are a welcomed break from a challenging day working as an NHS Occupational Therapist. They create a positive, fun and restorative space for us to recharge!

Frequently asked questions

Participants join us from all kinds of spaces, including their kitchens and living rooms! We recommend 1m x 1m square is the minimum space required to take part.

Our classes are open to all levels, with no experience of dance necessary. All movements are explained and demonstrated verbally and physically, with options to adapt or develop if needed. Exercises and routines are repeated in the class giving you a chance to learn and build confidence.

We recommend seeking advice from your GP before you take part in any new physical activity, but all movements and exercises can be adapted to suit your needs.
